Insurance & FAQ

The answers, before you even ask.

We want this to feel simple and unintimidating. Here are honest answers to the questions people ask most — and you can always call us for anything else.

Insurance

Cranial prosthetics are often covered.

Many insurance plans cover cranial prosthetics — sometimes listed as a "cranial prosthesis," "scalp prosthesis," or "hair prosthesis" — particularly when hair loss is related to a medical condition or its treatment. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so please call and we'll help you check what yours includes. A short note from your physician often helps.

For most insurances, we submit directly for reimbursement. Where that isn't possible, we'll give you all the paperwork you need to file on your own — and walk you through it so it feels manageable.

We also accept cash and all major credit cards. We're always transparent about costs up front; full payment is made before any alterations are performed.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

Will my insurance cover a cranial prosthetic?

Often, yes — especially when hair loss is connected to a medical condition such as alopecia or chemotherapy. Coverage varies by plan, so the surest way to know is to reach out. We'll help you understand what your plan may include and what documentation, like a doctor's prescription, can support your claim.

Is my visit private?

Completely. Calm, private rooms are available on request, and your appointment is unhurried and confidential. This is your time, in a space where you can feel entirely at ease.

How long does it take?

Appointments typically run about an hour — a little longer if you've asked for color alterations. For most clients, customization can be completed the same day, so you don't have to wait to feel like yourself again.

What happens at the first appointment?

We start with a gentle consultation and assessment — talking through your needs, taking head measurements and doing a hair analysis. From there we'll walk you through your options and what to expect, with no pressure to decide on the spot.

Do you only make prosthetics, or can you help with styling too?

Both. Alongside custom cranial prosthetics, we offer color matching and transformations, extensions, wash and styling, scalp and hair treatments, and wig sales, fittings and alterations — everything in one caring place.

Where are you located?

We have two locations — Southampton at 7 Hill St (Southampton, NY 11968) and Manhattan at 55 E 73rd Street, Fl G (New York, NY 10021). Both are by appointment; you can reach us by phone every day from 8 am to 9 pm at (631) 314-9021 or info@elicp.com.

Can I bring someone with me?

Of course. One guest aged 16 or over is welcome to join you, and anyone under 18 should be accompanied by an adult. A calm, private salon space is available on request, so you can feel completely at ease.

I'm feeling overwhelmed. Where do I start?

Start with a conversation — nothing more. Request a consultation or give us a call, and we'll take it one gentle step at a time. You don't have to have it all figured out before you reach out; that's what we're here for.

Still have a question?

We'd be glad to answer it — kindly and without any pressure.
